Drawing WInner!!! (And the annual Mommy-alone time is here)

I'm sitting here, after just writing everyone's name on teeny tiny little pieces of paper...cutting them up...and putting them in a little bowl.
What...you say there's that automatic random name drawing computer site now? Well, maybe I'll try it one of these days, but this way is so much more personal, don't ya' think?

And since I have a LOT of time on my hands this week, I didn't mind.

You see, this week is that annual time again when my husband takes our children and camps all week with his side of the family. The time when this homeschooling mom has a few days out of the year to call her time her own.

Only this year, I'm going to be joining them for the final two nights...because really, a gal can only have so much solitude before she starts doing strange things like...oh, say... finding old pictures of college friends while organizing and then googling their names...having long conversations with her dog... and considering actually cleaning things that haven't been cleaned in awhile.

But truely, I do look forward to just a few days to myself.
And since Sunday afternoon, I've been reading a lot, trying to make a dent in organizing a couple rooms, and just enjoying that rare time of not hearing arguments ensue or demands for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.
Honestly? I'm not a big fan of cooking and meal planning...so for me, it's a pure vacation to reach into the freezer for a Lean Cuisine of my choosing and call it good.

And most of all, I've been wanting to use to this time to have some uninterrupted time with the Lord...something that all of us as moms can find challenging during the busy days of parenting.

All of this said, I've got to come clean...
I miss my family SO much.
I miss my husband walking through the door at dinnertime and kissing me...
I miss my oldest daughter's silly sense of humor or our talks about the latest American Girl book she is reading...
I miss my youngest cuddling with me (at seven, she's still very much a cuddler) as we read stories at bedtime.

And last night, my heart was about broken when she began crying on the phone because she missed me so much.
I tried to encourage her, and then I prayed with her over the phone. But afterwards, I, too, was a puddle of tears.

So, needless to say, as much as I look forward to some rare alone time once a year, I am honestly looking forward to joining them in three more days!

Anyway, without further adieu...

Here is the name that I pulled out of my bowl with my eyes closed.....

DRUM ROLL....

Grandma Dawn!

Dawn, I'm so thrilled you won, since I know you love to read as I do!
You may have mentioned your first book choice already, but e-mail me and let me know what it is, as well as your mailing address.
(And I hope you enjoy sipping your Starbucks as you read!)

Blessings!

Congratulations to the winner!

Solitude is so nice in theory but too much of it has the same effect on me. Not that I get it that often. ;v)

Hey - what a nice surprise!! I will have to go back and see what the books were and let you know! Thanks so much.

I love solitude - I don't really get much any more! Retirement - sure!

I think I'll go with the suspense one - and thanks for the Starbucks - I don't do coffee, but will enjoy some hot chocolate!

Our first house was just that same size - and we also had a big yard for Kristen to play in, then Kev. Then we moved to this house and have been here for 31 years.

I will thoroughly enjoy the Starbucks gift - don't worry! Kristen said I could give it to her, but I declined the offer!

I am one of those people who just need a little bit of alone time every once in a while. It rarely comes, but when it does, like you I really enjoy it.

Congratulations to Grandma Dawn. There are a lot in our group who like to read.

Glad you are enjoying your alone time. We all need that sometimes and it makes us appreciate our families more. I hope you enjoy joining your family in a few more days.

Blessings,
Mary

Just wanted to pop in and give you a (((hug))). The solitude is refreshing but hugging the necks of your kids and getting that sweet kiss from your dh is balm as well.

Hope you have had some reprieve from the heat. Thankfully the rain here has lessened. Still getting light showers each day, but that sure beats the horrific downpours.

Woohoo, congratulations to Dawn, I'm sooo glad she won:-)

Isn't it funny how sometimes we can't wait to be alone and yet when it happens, we miss our family! When my boys were your girls' ages, I remember missing them so much when they were away for a few days and not knowing what to do with myself. Then when they'd return and the usual arguing, whining, etc., began again, I wished they were gone again! lol Have fun when you join up with them at the end of the week:-) xoxo

Now you know how lonesome i get. I sure hope I can move closer soon!!!
I don't even have a doggie for company. I still miss old Sandy. He was a good dog, well most of the time !. The only time was when he would get out & take off & not come when I called him if i spotted him.

My time goes fast. It seems like you were just doing this same thing with hubby and girls away camping! We need to cherish every moment don't we? I like my alone time too, I can always keep busy with one project or another or reading a good book. Congratulations to Dawn!!! She's a very lovely lady and I'm glad she won, she likes to read too!! xoxox

I would be the same as you....a little time alone is always good for planning, but I would really be missing my hubby and kids too! This house just gets too quiet!

When will ya'll start back to school? I've still got to order some curriculum, but hope to start in a couple of weeks for sure.
