"The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another. The difference between them is sometimes as great as a month."
~Henry Van Dyke
"In February there are days,
Blue, and nearly warm,
When horses switch their tails and ducks
Go quacking through the farm.
When everything turns round to full
The sun upon its back -
When winter lifts a little bit
And spring peeks through the crack."
~Dorothy Aldis
I took this picture a few days ago...the large, pink flowering bush which graces the humble entry way to our home.
I know so little about plants, but for some reason, this special bush (primrose?) always opens it's first bud or two even before January ends. Now it is full of blooms!
In these cold, rainy days we have at this time of year in the northwest, this bush always
represents a hope for spring... even when there is no other hope in sight.

Right on the other side of our front door is one, lonely little crocus peeking it's face out to the world. Although a little tentative, she almost appears reach upwards by faith...even though she stands alone.
I think God maybe showing me a few lessons from these first signs of Spring.
I spent almost the entire day today at a live Beth Moore telecast at our church. I hope to write more about this later....it was quite the event!
When I returned home from the meeting late this afternoon, I took some time with my little girls, running beside them as they rode their bikes around the culdesac. We stopped briefly at the little Woods near the end of our street, and stood on the little bridge.
In the land of suburbia, it is so nice to still have this tiny Woods, with a creek running right through it. The rains from this morning had stopped, but the creek was now
running fast and furious. I usually have only gone walking to in the summertime, when it usually no more than trickle. This little piece of forest is like a little hidden gem, that we so easily can forget is there...because it is not in our view. We forget that all we have to do is walk down the road and there it is, waiting for us.
So now...I'm waiting for Spring. But I'm taking so much hope in all of the signs I see as wintertime ends and new life slowly begins to peek out of the ground and look to the sky!
Blessings -and a wonderful weekend to each of you!
