Show and Tell Friday...but first...

Before I start this week's Show and Tell, I wanted to ackowledge an award I was recently and graciously given. Susanne from Living to Tell the Story honored me with The Thoughtful Blogger award a few days ago. Thank you so very much, my friend- I was so blessed by this!

I would like to pass The Thoughtful Blogger award on to Linda at Middle Years. Linda is truly a thoughtful blogger in every sense of the word...by putting so much beautiful thought into her posts...and by showing thoughtfulness to others!
She has a tender heart towards the Lord and inspires me with her gentle posts.

Last week I thanked Rosemary who so graciously gave me this award last week. But now I'm passing it on to...you, Susanne! Not because you just gave me an award, but because I truly think you deserve this one! You are truly one of the nicest bloggers I am blessed to have met...you are so uplifting in your blog and also in the comments you leave to others- very nice, indeed!

Now, for Show and Tell #3, hosted by Kelli at There is no place like home.

She writes, "Welcome to “Show and Tell Friday!” Do you have something special to share with us? It could be a trinket from grade school, a piece of jewelry, or a treasured collection. Look around your home for something to share; dig through those boxes in your closet if you have to! Share photos and the story that goes with your special item."

This is Turtie.

He and I go waaaaaaaaaaay back.
In fact, I have a big box of special friends whom he lives with sitting up in my closet. I recently retrieved this box from my sweet, obliging mom who has housed these friends for all these many, many years.

Why did I keep my so many stuffed animals and dolls, you ask? Well, maybe it was because I was raised as an only child- and with lots of imagination, to boot. Those dolls and stuffed animals became my true friends. Even confidants.
I told them secrets, played school with them as I lined them all up in a row...made up complex scenarios in which they starred...
and sometimes slept with them, piling them all on the foot of my bed. All but a choice one or two that were extra special to me that week. That special one snuggled up close to me.
Sometimes that special one was Turtie.

So, even when I grew up, I simply couldn't part with these friends.
Well, OK I did part with them because I moved away and didn't have room for most of my childhood things in those first few tiny apartments and homes.

And like so many faithful moms that possess both a tender heart- and that ever important hording gene- she dutifully kept them safe for me.

Now that I have gotten them back, each time I glance up at the closet box and see those old friends, I am instantly back in time to my early childhood, when all was well with the world.

(Turtie and I...I'm about three years old.)

U
nlike some of my other stuffed animals and dolls, I don't remember who gave him to me. But I lugged this faithful friend around a lot in my little arms.
Yep, Turtie was special. Cuddly, but with that certain savoir faire' and friendly smile that let me know everything was OK.

And even now, as an adult, I'm just not sure how I survived all of our years apart, Turtie and I.

Because with a face like this gazing over at me, it's just plain hard not to smile.

Tammy what a lovely Turtie you have there and to think the two of you go waaaaaaaa! back together it is so lovely.

I wish I had some of my little friends but they are no longer in my life sadly - I do however hope they are happy with someone else.

Well done in getting your lovely award - it makes us feel very loved and special doesn't it.

best wishes to you

That is way cool! I love this....as I love stuffed animals and dolls too. For me, I wasn't an only child, but a late arriver, and all my siblings were grown. We needed our friends, right?

my show 'n' tell is shared

Congratulations on the awards and I love that you paid them forward to Linda and Susanne. All of you are very deserving of these awards and what they mean.

Aren't you glad you have the kind of mom who saved something like this for you? So special. And the photo of you with your "friend" is priceless.

I love special friends! It is neat that you still have him and the memories that go with him. Fun!

Ah, I know the feeling. I tto was an only child and I had mountains of stuffed animals. The only one I kept after I married was Judy, the lioness. She used to be Clarence the lion, but that name didn't seem quite so fitting after I ate all his fur off!

I still have him/her and pull him/her out on occasion to reminice and to show the girlies.

That is one loved turtle. The picture with you holding Turtie is wonderful. Blessings...

Tammy, thanks so much! That truly is an honor. And you really do deserve it too. It's been a real pleasure becoming friends in blogworld with you.

"horde gene". That's hilarious. I finally have a name for the condition. LOL!

Your turtle is cute. And it's really funny because we are just watching a Franklin movie as I read this. Coincidence. I think not. ;v) My favorite stuffy was a Panda bear that eventually wore very thin. I have no idea where he is now. I'll have to ask my mom.

I think turtle is wonderful--what a face!

My stuffed animals and dolls were lost in an unfortunate family event--a move in which some things were accidently left behind! Not a happy story!

I think that is why I always like to see that people have kept some things from childhood. Your mother was great to keep him and his friends for you all those years!

Oh, I love Turtie now, too! Thanks for sharing him with us (and I LOVE that picture of you. Too sweet!)

I love this show and tell! How sweet is Turtie! My Alaina sounds just like you. She cannot let go of a single one of her stuffed animals. I figure she can take them with her when she marries!
Congratulations on your award. You are very deserving of it!

I used to have the wrinkly kneed camel from Raggedy Ann and Andy. Not sure whatever happened to it. Now I have an Eeyore that my kids got me a few years ago. He sings a gloomy song and I love him.

I decluttered my past a few years ago and am still in declutter my present mode as we speak.

Love your Turtie!!

That is so precious, Tammy. I love that you have a picture of yourself with it--adorable. Our house burned when I was a senior in high school, so I don't have any of my childhood stuff--but I do have fond memories of my Mrs Beasley, and my Lazy Daisy doll! Thanks for sharing.

I have nothing like that from my childhood. We moved too much as preacher's kids, and Mom and Dad finally told us all to come and get our stuff, because they couldn't more them any more. I must have gotten rid of most things. We didn't have a lot of stuffed animals, but my sis and I played dolls to the max - we were the best of mothers.

I can see why you wanted me to go read this when we talked earlier, but just got around to it because I accidently took a nap when I layed, or is it (laid) down with the heating pad on my back. I'm not sure who gave you Turtie, whether it was your dad or I or some other family member or friend.
I loved the picture of the two of you. Of all of my dolls in my doll collection, I have a couple of favorites, my Shirley Temple you gave me & a small little girl doll named Susan your dad gave me. Susan isn't really what one would think of as a collectable, but because of being a gift from your dad, she is special. Maybe sometime You can post her picture, or maybe figure out a way I can. I also have some stuffed animals of my own as you know.

How sweet! If any of mine survived, I think they're be in my mom's attic. You're right, Turtie makes you smile just to look at him.

Me, again!

I have some news for you, but do not have your email. Please email me at

I also need your address--Because the news is that you won one of the books in my Giveaway! Yipee!

I mean--I have to have it sent somewhere, seeing as how I am not coming all the way up there to deliver it!I guess I could; but, you know, I'd still need the address! 0-)

I don't have anything from "that far back" but then mostly I treasured books even back then and they weren't the most comfy to sleep with. LOL
