Sand, Shore and a little HGTV

Isn't this a great sand castle? I forgot to ask who made this, but I suspect my artsy husband might have had something to do with it...

My family is back home with me...and I tell you, it must be true what they say about absence making the heart grow fonder. I am so loving my family this weekend!

Amazingly, right after the car was unloaded, we all headed off to a company picnic at an amusement park.
So, if you think that my husband and girls might have already been on their way to being tired after 5 nights of camping, you can just imagine how exhausted everyone was after spending 4 hours standing in lines and sailing through the air on crazy rides on a humid afternoon made them.

Although they wouldn't have missed this annual picnic for the world, they were beyond tired and each took a turn in what I fondly refer to as "Melt-down City". Understandably, of course...but even when you expect to have to go to this "city", it's never a nice visit!

But as far as their week camping, they tell me they had an absolute wonderful time...

A little chilly as it sometimes is on the Northwest coast, but not too chilly to hang out on the beach!

But today, after their living outside for nearly a week, plus being over-tired, we all cozied up inside...playing games and watching TV, and just generally relaxing.

My girls even bonded with me as I watched my two, back to back season finales this evening.

Forget Survivor....Forget American Idol...
Forget all the other reality shows where people get voted off.

I hadn't been suckered into watching any of these for years!

And then....
Then, I was pulled into the two-fold sage that is:

Designer Star

and

The Next Food Network Star

And to think we have to vote for the next designer star. How can I pick between these two sweet people?

Matt or Jennifer...Jennifer or Matt....

I'm going to take a deep breath and go on to bed now. I just can't take the pressure...wake me on Wednesday when American sends one of them packing, please.

Meanwhile, back to reality...

And actually, that is pretty nice.
It's so wonderful to simply "be" with my family and I'm looking forward to enjoying simple moments with them this week, with no big plans at all.

Because although having a break each year and time to myself is truly a good thing for me...having my family back with me after they've gone is even better!

Blessings!

Hey!! I loved camping as a child, but haven't done it for a long time. It would be fun up where you are because it wouldn't be so blasted hot in the summer.

The sand castle is amazing, Tammy!

I haven't watched either of those shows and I do not need ONE MORE show to follow, so I'm resisting the urge to go check 'em out. Cause they both sound like shows I'd add to my "list"!

Hugs,

Susan

This has been my favorite Design Star season. I was glad they were the final two.

I watched both of those shows last night too. I never vote but love watching Designer. I'd never watched food network until this past week when my 9 year old grandson, Aric, was here and turned it on. We watched, back to back, all the previous episodes so I was hooked and had to watch the final of that last night too. I thought the girl would win, but all were good. I think Jennifer will win the designed!!!

Hi Tammy,
So nice that you have your family all back together! Love the sand castle, but then the ocean is one of my favorite spots.
I don't watch the design show, but we did watch the Next Food Network Show. I was hoping for a different outcome..

I'm sure you felt your world right itself when your family got back home. I'm glad they're safely home and you've had such a good weekend.
We watched both of those shows when we visited the Grands a couple of weeks ago. We don't have cable so they were new to us. The whole family gathered round the tv to watch. It really was fun. So you must tell me who wins when the time comes! I's ask my daughter-in-law but they are right in the middle of a huge move and I don't think that's on the top of her list right now :-)

I see you finally decided against joining the camping crew. I know you enjoyed the time alone.
I wish we had some of that chilly weather, at least until all our outside work is finished.

I don't watch much TV. I couldn't tell you what any of the new shows are. I see some reruns of CSI or Law And Order occasionally. I did break down and watch all of the seasons of LOST this year. I watch it on the computer so no commercials and I can see it when I want.

those sweatshirt on the beach pictures remind me so much of our spring breaks when the girls were young (and at home)

kites, sand castles, cold feet, and sand tracks into the motel shower... awwww those were the daze.

What a sandcastle! But I was a wee bit jealous when you said it gets cool there, with sweatshirts even! It's only been about 102 here lately, and it's still July.
Glad they're home and y'all are enjoying each other's company.

What a fantastic sand castle! So your husband's artistic??? Very cool.

HG-TV is one of our fav. Saturday night "dates." We really enjoy all those house make-over shows... (my does husband too.) May the best Design Star win!

What a pretty sand castle, Tammy! I'm so glad you have your family back home...all your eggs in the nest! :)

Okay, I've been hearing about Matt and Jennifer of Designer Star, but we don't have cable...only get 1 local channel and it really is wonderful when you get used to it! We just rent whatever we want to watch! But I would be into that show if I had it...I know...because HGTV is the one thing that I do miss...and I kind of liked the Hallmark Channel too! If and when they can come up with a pick and choose your own channels...we'll get it back! I'm a little stubborn! :)

Tammy,

I'm sure your family had a great time while they were away, but there is no where like home. I'm sure you missed them very much and they would have also missed you too.

Enjoyed the photos. That sandcastle is beautiful.

Blessings,
Mary

What an amazing sand creation! I can't imagine being able to do that. Sounds like they had a wonderful time.

We go to Melt Down City more often than I would prefer - but it's part of life, I guess.

I haven't heard of those shows - I don't like too many of the reality shows - in fact, just one - AI. Have fun watching!

I know your excited to have them home. It sounds like everyone had a great time. I would love to be in a place where it is cooler... even for a few days. A sweatshirt sounds inviting... fall will be here before I know it!

Great photos... I love the sand castle.

Great sand castle too

I know... Both of them are really great! I've stayed away from anything that could let me know who won until I can watch the show (TiVo). I must add that I love David Bromstad... for me, no one has come close.

I also watched the finals of the design star. They were both good & also had gotten to be friends during the show.
