I saw this meme visiting a couple friends' blogs recently, and thought it looked fun. But I only have time to do the first half...I'll try to get to the second half next week!
What I was doing ten years ago...
Let's see...I think I was enjoying Fleet Week with my sailor husband in the Big Apple!
We had been married two years, and were stationed in Virginia for the duration of his Navy days. He was constantly going what are called "work ups"...short little times at sea, in between the long, agonizing deployments (which lasted five or six months).
This time it was only about a week, though...and some of the wives were getting together and flying up to meet with the ship after it docked in the N.Y. harbor for the 1997 Fleet Week. And needless to say, we were excited!

Ten years ago seems like a different life...living in a new part of the country was a big adventure for me.
So was being married after being single throughout all my twenties. But it was hard to have my new husband away so much.
However, the biggest change from then to now was that we weren't yet parents.
It's hard now for me to fathom not knowing and loving my two girls...but then, I think I already did love them back then... a tiny part of my pre-motherly heart must have known them already.
One year ago....
That's easy. I was pretty much doing what I am doing now!
Getting ready for my oldest's daughter's birthday...
enjoying a loosening in the home school schedule for the summer...
and I had just started to discover the wonderful world of blogging.
Only difference was that we didn't have our pup, Mandy yet...she wasn't even born! (Nor did we have our many holes in the backyard and chewed up belongings...)
And we were going to a different church back then...
Oh, I hadn't learned yet that Maui was not the dream destination that our family must move to...
Other than that, I feel as though the last year went by at lightening speed...but I'm thankful for God being with us, protecting us, and guiding us throughout all this time...both our year- and the decade.

Tomorrow we're heading to see my mom for the day. We haven't actually seen her since my sister in law's wedding in May, and we plan on picking cherries off her trees and riding a nearby carousel. (And I think that my 80 year old mom will be riding it, too!)

Ten years ago I was in London visiting a friend... wow... and twenty years ago I was getting ready to be an exchange student to the US, now, that's a lot of time... oh my time flies... you enjoy your time with your mom... mine is 76 and her birthday is coming up.
I remember the story you posted about the trip to NY and the celebrity sighting! What a great story :)

I'm with groovyoldlady, however, I'm not sure I can remember what I did yesterday, much less ten years ago! I'd have to do some serious thinking before I'd post that!

It was fun learning a bit more about you... I never knew your husband was in the Navy.

Wow, ten years ago....hmmmm...seems like a different world. Let's see...I was homeschooling three adolescent daughters, playing chauffeur all over town as they were in a city wide choir, and packing to move out where we live today...yep...a different world!

That's the one I lost before I could get it published, and then had to re-do! I should have done half at a time. I need to go back and re-read the New York story.

Time really does go by far too quickly. I'm not sure I can remember what I was doing ten years ago (I'd have to look at my old daily calendar).

I just read this just now & yes I had fun riding the Carousel, & watching the girls pick cherries off of the trees. For anyone wondering, I made sure my friend who does my yard, did not trim the back branches on the Cherry tree. They hang low & even little cherub had no difficulty in reaching them & filling her little plastic container.
I had never read your Maui story before. I knew from some comments you have made that you had a less than perfect trip there, but I didn't know the whle story. I read Part 1 today. An earthquake! How frightening! I will finish the story soon!

I visited with my mom yesterday and we happened to reminisce about about life 10 years ago. I'm glad she was able to enjoy traveling with us back then and happy that now she has the memories when she has trouble leaving the house. Have a great time with your mom - and make her ride the carousel twice!
