To my fellow bloggers, I am so far behind again, but hope to catch up tomorrow...bear with me!
And I hope most of you are having better weather than we currently are...
Some of my husband's family has always had the tradition of going to see the parade every year...the big Rose Festival P*rade.
And I have to admit, when I do actually go, it's pretty exciting to be just literally two feet from these huge, impressive floats made painstakingly of roses as they pass by...or to actually feel the vibrations of the best marching bands in the northwest, who sometimes stop to do their extra number right in front of your chairs.
But some years, I like to stay home for some alone time.
Or, as in this year...some dry time.
My poor family were among hundreds who sat bravely in the pouring rain for several hours.

And the lovely royal court, not letting the rain "dampen" their spirits...or their dresses!
This cute little pony could even make all the wet Oregonians smile...(notice the pink hooves!)
And I've always enjoyed seeing the Spanish dancers...such wonderful color on this gray day!
My girls weren't exactly thrilled with the pouring rain, but they told me they still had some fun.
I had crazily held out some hope that between the rain coats and the umbrellas and hats, that they might stay somewhat dry...but alas, they came home completely drenched.
As I hugged my girls at the front door and felt how soggy they were, I immediately helped them change into dry clothes and made them hot chocolate. I'm sure it did nothing for my oldest daughter's cold she already has...but I prayed for her and we spent the evening cuddling upstairs with a movie.
(Funny, how in the remake of The Parent Trap, it seems to be raining half the time...which caused us to pull those warm covers up over us even more...)
And what did I do the whole afternoon? Well, stay dry, for one thing...
But I did clean, organize...and oh yes, I finished reading one of the books on my reading list, "At Home in Mitford".
(And why didn't you all tell me this book was so thick? If I had seen the size of it, I think I would have cut my reading list in half!) Yet, I'm so glad I finally dived into this series...I know many of you have already read these, but I'll be doing a little review on it his coming week because now I finally know why everyone loves these so much!
So anyway, it's been quite the chilly, soggy day...
I am so ready for real summer to begin! We had a sneak peek about a week or so ago, and I guess it spoiled me.
Right now, I feel like hibernating under the covers with my next book and pretending it's winter.
So if you'll excuse me...Just wake me when there's yellow and blue in the sky again, OK?

After hearing how wet & soggy my little muchkins got, I'm glad that I watched it on TV. It was the 100th anniversary so I'm glad the girls got to see it in person. I don't know whether they will repeat the broadcast, but it was so interesting the way it was devided into the different eras. Naturally I loved the 40s which had 3 girls who had played the Andrews sisters singing on one of the floats. I also loved the old cars, & people dressed in the clothing of each era. They also showed old films of the parades taken years ago. During WW2 there was no parade because they feared having large gatherings of people, so this was the first time the Queens from those years got to ride in the parade, & former queens who had passed away, had their pictures displayed on the sides of the floats.

.... now it is raining here. coming down very hard. I love to hear it on the sky window.
I think you made the right choice to stay home and read on a rainy day. And ... I've said it before ... Father Tim would make the best neighbor wouldn't he? His lovely flowers and talent for pork roast! I bet he has some great recipes to share. Enjoy the series! I've read all of them 3 times over the years.
I always enjoy a sunny parade much more than a rainy one too! I'd say your summertime weather is long overdue.

We need rain so badly that even if it comes down on a parade I would love it. However, I'm sorry your family had such soggy viewing. Isn't it great to "just stay home" sometimes? Even household chores can feel good.
Sorry about the rain, but the parade seemed like it would be a lot of fun to watch. Happy for the cuddle time you had with the girls afterwards.

I'm glad you began the Mitford book series. I just love those books and have them all. Every one of them just makes me feel like I've spent time with dear friends. I was so sad when she published the final one.
I love parades, but I must say, I've never been to one that cool. I just adore that little pony with the pink hooves. I can't believe it was patient enough for someone to actually paint all four! I hope your little one gets to feeling better and that warm weather finds you soon! Have a great week!
It's hard to imagine feeling damp and chilly right now. We are definitely into summer weather here. It is just plain hot, and there's plenty of blue sky and yellow sun.
I don't think I would have braved the weather for the parade either, but if I were a little girl nothing would have kept me home!! I'm sure they had a great -albeit wet - time!!

Sorry about the rainy days going on and on. We need them, but it does get tiresome, doesn't it?? Too bad it can't be spread around a bit.
The Mitford series only gets better and better. I'm so glad you've joined in. I need to re-read them. Right now I'm re-reading the series by Earlene Fowler that I just love - mysteries with a quilt pattern theme! Go figure - but she's a Christian and they're so fun.

I can't imagine seeing the parade in person, I've only watched it on the tv all these years. Too bad it rained though, hopefully next year will be better. I LOVE the Mitford series! They are wonderful books, so clean and refreshing with wonderfully eccentric characters. Happy Reading!
The parades here are as big or as fancy, but they all throw CANDY and this makes us very happy!
One time we were at the Christmas parade on the day after Thanksgiving. It was so unbelievably cold that I had the girls bundled within an inch of sanity. They sat in the cute little chairs and couldn't move a muscle. I had to keep pulling off my gloves and shuffling up to fight 10 year-olds for the all important parade haul.
Candy. That's what parades are all about!
I'm with you--inside reading a book on a rainy day! Mitford books are good no matter what kind of day. I just feel like I know all of those people. I have the Bedside Companion now, but haven't read much of it yet.

I like parades, but I also like alone time especially when it is raining on the parade in question.
You have me interested in the Mitford books. I have never heard of them. But given the rave reviews they are receiving here in the comments from your other readers, I think I will investigate.
