My "baby" is suddenly hitting a few "out door" milestones!
It all started last week. And I totally blame it on all this beautiful weather we've been having...
With my protective presence right by her, she finally made it across the monkey bars on our old swingset without any help! She was estatic!
Then...I think it could have been the very next day...her daddy took her training wheels off.
At first, she was upset...and I was secretly on her side. My youngest is talented in so many ways but coordination has never been one of them.
But...that day and the next, she was suddenly riding around like she had been doing this for years!
Turning and breaking and everything...
What was up with this?
If this wasn't all enough, our next door neighbor kindly gave her little roller blades her daughter had outgrown.
Of course, she has never been able to hold her own roller skating so when she could barely stand up in them, I wasn't surprised.
Her big sister didn't even have roller blades, so their daddy took her to a discount store and they actually found some in big sister's size!
And after just three days of practicing, both of them are roaring through the neighborhood now during school breaks, in the evenings...every chance they get!
(Well, OK...my youngest is more mewing than actually roaring..
but she is skating!!!)
Mastering the monkey bars, learning to ride a bike and learning to roller blade all in one week!!!
What next?
As all mommies are, I'm so proud of her.
But I admit, it's kind of a whirlwind, too!
On top of being proud of her, I'm also so thankful that she still wants to cuddle on my lap every day, that she still plays with her bath toys in the tub, and likes to pretend with her little ponies and dolls.
Because I know all too well from others, that it goes by so fast. And pretty soon she'll be saying...
"Look Ma! A driver's license!"

Sounds like she's really developing the big muscle coordination all at once. Good for her! You're so right to cherish these times, because they do go by in a heartbeat!

The best part is to cuddle on your lap... how precious is that! Give both girls a hug for me!
The former teacher in me has to throw this in. You would not believe how important the gross motor development (bars, bicycle, roller blades,etc..) is- it enhances the reading process while involving both sides of the brain which is so important. Keep up the great work... you get the Mom of the Year award from ME!

Enjoy these special milestones for they pass so quickly.
It is normal to have mixed emotions on kid's accomplishments, especially on your youngest.
Mom's are proud of what they can do but don't want them to grow up too fast. Tell he Nammy is proud of her too. Iwatched your oldest zip across that same ladder top too.
What wonderful milestones. It's amazing how quickly kids pick up on such things.
Eeeeekkkkkk. No driving just yet! :~D That WAS a major milestone, and I still don't like to be passenger in the car when our kids are at the wheel. :~D
I love all that pink on your daughter. And hooray for bicycling without training wheels. (AND for cuddling afterward.)
Wow, she sure is growing up ... which is great, but a shame too, don't you think !?!

What great accomplishments you little one has made and all in one week. It sounds to me that once she learned one thing, her confidence was built up and she learned to do the others. That is terrific. I'm proud of her.
Brandon is the same way. He has trouble doing things and then suddenly when he learns one, he learns more right away. With him I know for sure it is a confidence thing.

What fun to watch! Care Bear is very coordinated and athletic, but has not mastered the bike yet - I"m not sure why!

So true....We're so proud of them...but then it's like...wait slow down...don't grow up so fast! Your little one looks alot like you! It made me smile to see them having so much fun! You should be proud!

This reminded me of the week we took the training wheels off our second daughter's bike.

She's doing three things I STILL can't do, at 58, Tammy. OK, maybe I could do the monkey bar thing...not that I would...since people would think I'm a little strange. And I can ride a bike as long as I never ever come to a corner. Skating just isn't ever going to happen.
Good for her! And my goodness, she's not going to get hurt - look at all that protective gear.
You're right - before you know it, she's going to have a driver's license and I can promise you, the first time she takes the car out alone, your heart is going to be in your throat. :-)
