The girls and I just got back from seeing the town parade!
September in Oregon is usually better weather than spring, and today was no exception. It was just gorgeous! We had some special guests as our our Grand Marshall this year, which I'll show in just a moment.
But first, as promised, our trip to the zoo with my mom and her friend, H....

(Above, a photo I forgot to include and just added: our generations...Mom, daughter, grand daughters!)One of our highlights was seeing the brand new baby elephant that had been in the news! Born on August 25th after a long labor and some concern that his mama might reject him, they are both doing fine now together.
It was hard to get a good picture, but he is such a cutie!
And our other favorite part was at the very end. Hot and tired, we sat inside a shaded cave area on benches, watching as the sea lions put on an underwater show for us!
They really seemed to enjoy showing off for all of us...and for such massive creatures, they are truly graceful!
Yes, it was a lot of fun for all of us, but we were all exhausted after four hours! How my octogenarian mom managed to hang in there with just a few breaks in beyond me, because I was ready for a nap when I got home!
And now, for the parade today...
My husband had to work, but the girls and I had the best time! There were the usual high school bands, along with local businesses...sons of the American Revolution and some honored veterans...
And lots and lots of classic cars...
But we were also excited to see the grand marshals...
If you watch "Little People, Big World" on TLC you might recognize these folks! They live here in Oregon and I wrote a post about meeting them at their pumpkin farm two years ago. (The mom, Amy, also worked at the same preschool that one of my girls had gone to, just when their show began!)
But it was fun to see them again. The teen, Jeremy, kindly threw candy right at the girls and then said, "Here, have some more!" as he tossed another handful. What a guy!
His sister marched in the flag section with her school right behind them...
Yes, it's not often you get to go to the zoo and a parade in the same week! And have it be incredible weather for both! But why I now have a sudden urge for K*ispy Kreme donuts, I can't imagine..

Okay, Tammy, now that is just TOO much fun....a parade and a zoo! We're planning a trip to the zoo really soon...I like to go when it gets just a little cooler because the animals feel really good and they come out and walk around more and just look like they enjoy it....not just sitting smothering like they do in the summer! We're also going to do some animal classifications (got to throw in a little school, right?) lol!

What fun! The Zoo and a parade. I think I love the zoo even better than most kids, especially the monkeys for some reason. (hmmmm...wonder what that says about me! lol)

I loved the pctures you took of our trip to the zoo.(Don't know why I forgot to take my camera) I especially like the one of little Sam,(short for Samudra, a hindi word meaning lord of the ocean which was thought to ba an appropriate name because he loves to take baths according to his keepers.
I would have loved to see the Roloffs in person in the parade & hope to meet them some day.

Looks like great fun on both counts. The kids are all in their teens and the zoo doesn't interest them much any more. I'll have to just maybe make a date with hubby and go next time we are in the big city.

What a lovely time you had with your mother and the girls. Yes, the seniors seem to be able to keep up without any trouble and only a few breaks. Mom is the same way and often out-does me.
The picture of the generations is awesome. I love these types of photos, as they are precious memories.

Fun, fun. I remember reading about the Little People/ Big World family. We love that TV show. The weather looks gorgeous. I'm still twidling my thumbs waiting for temps UNDER 90 degrees to head our way.

One of my favourite places to go to is the zoo! Sounds like you all had a great time and that baby elephant is just adorable. Like you said, I don't know how your mom withstood all these hours at the zoo with the heat...I'd have been wilting very badly! lol

That baby elephant is adorable! So glad that he and mom bonded. I'd hate to have to bottle feed an elephant! ha! Yes, after 4 hours of walking around the zoo I would be ready for a nap too! Thanks for taking us along on your excursions!
