January Doin's

I was hoping to participate in Show and Tell Friday today, but alas, our main computer- which downloads the pictures- is down right now. Hopefully next week!

So, this will just have to be a sort of condensed "catch up" post...

But before I forget, remember our next Home School Open House is this coming Tuesday!!!

Please feel free to grab the button and join in...there should be a Mr. Linky and I love to see what everyone else is doing!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
While we did have a December "deep freeze", we are now enjoying sunshine and balmy weather up in the 50's lately while the rest of you shiver in parkas. ;)
Our family has all been enjoying our new Wii Fit that my wonderful husband surprised us with at Christmas. My nine year old especially is the Wii Champion...
However, I do my share, too. You can pick either a male or female coach...I have the guy and I named him Raoul...
On a more serious note, I found out today that my mom is going to need surgery to remove a cataract at the end of this month.
She has had this surgery before many years ago...but now she's 81, so I hope you'll pray with me for all to go smoothly for her. She is as sharp as a tack and loves to read all the time, so I'm praying that her eye sight in that eye is restored to her well.
I'm heading down there just to visit and spend the night at her place this weekend while my husband and girls hang out at home...It's always fun to get away once in a great while and just relax by myself with Mom....usually chatting and watching old movies!
EDITED: Oh bummer...found out we need to postpone our visit...hubby is working late and since my dog recently ate my cell phone and all, it just wasn't working out this time!
As I mentioned in my last post, our family loved watching Anne of Green Gables together (and the girls and I listened to the CD at bedtime) so we all became very much immersed in the world of Avonlea.
So much so that my six year old made her own paper dolls of the characters!
(However, she did re-enact the one famous scene and had a paper Anne break an invisible slate over poor paper Gilbert's head!)
We are thinking seriously of visiting Prince Edward Island, home of Anne, sometime in the not to distant future! Right now, it's just in the dreaming and checking out stage...but even my husband is all set to go! (But he wants to make a pit stop in NYC...hmmm.)
And how did it get to be so close to turning another number already? I'm not sure I'm liking that so much...
Even though my birthday looms ever so near, we probably won't be doing anything big this year. It's not like last year when it was a sort of "half- milestone" and I ended up having three days of celebrations...whew!
(Part 2 was also here...)
But...the girls are excited to be staying over night with a favorite uncle and aunt while my husband takes me out to dinner...and then we get to stay home and
pretend we're at a fancy Bed and Breakfast! Still, that could be fun...;)
But for now, I'll leave you with memories of a favorite childhood birthday of mine...my seventh, to be exact!
Anyone remember Farrell's and the mountains of ice cream in those big silver bowls as the waiters sang and clapped? I obviously felt a little shy as all eyes turned toward me with all the birthday commotion, though!
And it's hard for me to believe that my youngest daughter will be turning this age on her next birthday, too...sigh...
Blessings!
Happy soon to be birthday Tammy! They just seem to roll around a lot faster then I would like at this stage of my life! lol! They say time seems to go faster the older you get and it's TRUE!
Will be praying for you Mom and her eye surgery. Having a Mom that is almost totally blind I know first hand the importance our eyes are and how it applies to our quality of life. Have fun with her watching the old movies and tell us what you watched!
Prince Edward Island is just beautiful! They always did have a show you could go to about Anne of Green Gables, don't know if they still have it but hopefully they do.
It's 28* below zero this morning! Very dangerous to be outside for any length of time unless you are dressed in artic wear.
Have a wonderful weekend!! xoxo
I remember Farrell's. I used to be a waitress at a place called Swensen's. We made all our own ice cream on site. I think that is where I fell in love for the first time. With Praline Pecan!!
Blessings to your sweet mom. I hope all goes well for her surgery.
Have a great weekend!
I would love to go to Prince Edward Island - it looks so beautiful in the movies. You're whetting my appetite to check out those books again - all of them.
We're into the nicer weather here now too. I was actually outside shovelling the mountain of snow from in front of my garage with no coat and no sweater if you can believe it.
Praying your mom's surgery goes just fine!
Yes, I remember Farrell's!!!! Sad, to say they're long gone.
What a fun birthday memory, Tammy. My husband took me to Farrell's on one of our very early dates. Yum. :~D
Tammy,
I do hope you and your family come to PEI. And NYC doesn't sounds delightful too. There are so many things to see and do as a family there.
Here is a link to the Anne of Green Gables show that Midlife Mom mentioned.
Also, here is an article I wrote about NYC for kids. Take a look and make a plan.
This is one vacation I would like to be along on. Let us know if you plans become firm.
Blessings,
Oh good gosh Tammy! I just KNOW we're sisters somehow. I loved Farrell's. And I am cracking up cause my brother just became a "fan of Farrell's" on Facebook. Tooooo fun!!
I am certainly praying for your Mom.
I am loving the Wii Fit. I'm not using it everyday like I should, but I love it when I do use it.
Hugs,
Sorry, your trip got canceled but I do hope your Mom's surgery goes well. I will remember her in my prayers.
We've even been cold in the southeast this week. No snow for me but I'm still hoping.
I want the WII Fit. It sounds just like so much fun.
I hope your computer is back to 100% soon. That can be so frustrating.
Happy Birthday!
I haven't seen a Farrell's in a long time. Those gigantic silver bowls filled with generous amounts of ice cream were ever so glorious. Yes, good times.
Praying for your mom.
Tammy,
I would love to contribute something to your Home and School Open House tomorrow. Now, I just have to remember to do the post. LOL Senior Moments you know... I will make a note to myself to be sure and do this.
Thanks so much for the invitation.
I do remember Farrell's! It was such a fun place.
Anne of Green Gables is one of my all-time favorites. I have a real Anne paper doll that I'd love to mail to your girls, if you want to email me privately with your address.
Tammy
I wanted to pop over and thank you for visiting my blog. I loved reading this post as my older two children (now 25 and 23) loved Anne of Avonlea too. I home schooled them when they were younger and we incorporated it into our homeschool and had such fun with it.
Today we once again were out shoveling and then of course sledding. New England seems to be getting the most snow they have had in years. I don't think we will see 50 degrees till April if not June!
Have a great Monday.
Thanks so much for stopping by!! I too want to go to PEI sometime for the same reason!!
I never heard of Farrells - is it a west coast thing maybe?
I hear so much of the Wii Fit, I think I'm going to look into it...it might be just the thing I need to get me to exercise! lol
My prayers are with your mom, hopefully her surgery to remove the cataract will go well. My mom needs to have that surgery as well but as of now, it's not "ripe" enough. She has a really hard time reading because of it so she's hoping to have it soon.
I'd also love to go to PEI one day. Shawn & Wendy said it was such a beautiful island and they want to go back. Imagine being able to see Green Gables in person:-)
Hard to believe you have another birthday coming up soon...seems you just had one! lol Those darn years come around so fast, don't they!!
Stay warm and hope you're having a wonderful week!! xoxo
My mom just went and bought the Wii Fit and it is pretty fun - you should see me hula-hooping LOL I also chose the male trainer, and now I'll think of him as being "Raoul" because of your post! :)
Will be praying for your mom and her cataract surgery.
Hope I haven't missed your birthday- wanted to make sure I sent birthday wishes your way!
I hope everything goes OK with your mom. I'll say a little prayer for you and for her. I have Anne of GG DVR'd and keep wanting to watch it but so far have not made the time. But it's sitting right there waiting for me whenever I'm ready! I loved the book as a child and read it several times.
