It was great reading all of your responses in my last post...I think the topic of balancing on-line friendships with face-to-face relationships is something most of us are keeping in mind in this day and age. And something we constantly need to ask God for guidance about!
So, speaking of on-line friendships, I have gotten behind on replying to most of your posts this week...We've been back to schooling full time and all that goes with it.
Like actually getting up in the morning. ;)
And here's another segue...

You might remember my posting about the movie, Fireproof this past fall.
We were blessed to have a chance to see it a second time at church this past Friday night! We had actually missed the first fifteen minutes of the movie the first time, so it was great to finally see the missing beginning scenes!
I already reviewed it but I just have to restate a bit here:
If you haven't already seen it, go...or order the DVD about to be released.
In spite of a few minor actors that give less than stellar performances, it is obvious that God is using this film in so many ways. Kirk Cameron gives a moving performance....and there are some tense action scenes...along with plenty of humor, too.
But most of all, it gave us a whole new outlook on how precious marriage really is.

Another film our whole family has been enjoying together is the 1985 version of Anne of Green Gables.
I remember being captivated by this version when they first aired it back then...and now my girls are being equally entranced.
And would you believe even my action-loving hubby, the lone guy in our house of girldom...the man who has to go upstairs alone to catch his nice sci-fi or war movie now and then ...
he absolutely loves this story, too!
(And ladies, who can resist a husband who will watch Anne with you!)

Friendships of all kinds are so very important. We need to work at developing the on-line ones, just as we have to work to develop our in life ones. They don't just "happen". It takes time and effort. That is what lurkers don't understand. They may learn about you but you don't learn about them and friendships are not born.

I totally agree with Susan. When I first started blogging I was a lurker and intimidated to 'show my face'. While that was fun for awhile, I began wanting to get to know these (now) friends. And, I've actually had the privelege of meeting Susan IRL.
I'm going to try and to remember participate in your homeschool Tuesday.
We love, love, love the Anne of Green Gables movies and it won't be long and I'll begin reading out loud the books to Grace. We actually did a whole unit study on these books with my older daughter.

I've really been struggling lately with the amount of time I spend on the computer with blogging and facebook. Sometimes I think I might just stop or take a vacation. It's a big decision. One I am praying about. I'm actually doing a post on this very subject later today.

I agree that the friendships we have formed here on our blogs are very real and important. I also agree that we cannot neglect our face-to-face friends. It's so easy to do in this busy life we all lead. It's easier sometimes to sit at the computer and visit than it is to arrange a visit with a friend in real life!
I love Anne too Tammy. I just dredged up all my Anne books and plan to reread them this year - just for the love of them!
I consider you a friend too and in many ways, probably know your heart and soul better than some face to face friendships. That's bloggerville for you... go figure and try to balance the two. You are and have been a blessing to me for several years now and even though we can't always reply or visit as often as we would like to at times, it's refreshing to know that we can pick up where we left off by clicking the mouse and reading! Loved Anne of Green Gables! I was very hooked on the series a couple of years ago when PBS was airing it. My girls watched it with the kids they used to babysit and loved it, too.
Anne of Green Gables - one of my favorite people of all times. And they did such a marvelous job of making the movies fit the books. I once read the entire series - they go much beyond those early years, up to when she married and had children. I just loved them. I should do that again.
And Fireproof - I got Kev and Sema the Love Dare books for Christmas and will look forward to what those will hold for their marriage when they get back from Kenya. I love love love the fact that Kirk would not kiss his co-star and they had his wife stand in for her in that wonderful scene where they found each other again. So neat.
Indeed, who can resist Anne of Green Gables?

Fireproof - still looking forward to seeing it ...
Different kinds of friendships are important. Sometimes it's easier to share things anonymously than with our real life buddies. I've just really been into blogging the last few weeks after a slow start over a year ago, and getting the courage to comment and participate.
Anne of Green Gables is a favorite of mine. It was a series my mom read as a girl and she passed that love to me. I remember how excited I was when PBS first showed the Anne series in 1986-I remember crying my eyes out watching it (I was newly pg. with oldest dd and highly emotional!).
I just finished reading "Before Green Gables" last night and am ready to start the book series once again.

This heartwarming expression captures the essence of friendship. When two people share a strong bond of mutual understanding, respect and love it lays the foundation stone for an everlasting friendship. This bond just gets stronger with time; the trust between the two people grows and so does the attachment. This is the beauty of the relationship and is the essential meaning of friendship.
Being friends means being there for each other at all times, whether it's good or bad. A friend needs to be very understanding and give each other the benefit of the doubt. Ideally the meaning of friendship is sharing unconditional love for each other. However this is not an ideal world; therefore some form of expectations are allowed, but that has a limit too. The purpose and meaning of friendship is to make life's burdens lighter for our friends and not make them heavier. The Roman thinker Cicero said "Friendship makes prosperity brighter, while it lightens adversity by sharing its griefs and anxieties."
I think that you can meet some great ladies on these blogs and I have done that myself but for me real friendship goes much deeper than my relationships with other Christians on the web, not that I don't value those, but that they are just different than a true friend.

My mom and dad went to a local church that was showing Fireproof and saw it for the first time! They loved it too! They said the church was crowded! I can't wait until it comes out on DVD to own it too!
Thanks for reminding me about Anne of Green Gables...think I'll put that on my Netflix list! I would love for Joy to see it! I remember loving it!

How great to be able to share "Anne of Green Gables with the girls & my son in law too. I have always loved those movies & of course read the books as well as ome of her other stories.
I just LOVE the Anne of Green Gables series! I have watched it many times. When my granddaughter gets a little older I will introduce her to it too. I haven't seen Fireproof yet but it sounds so good! I will look for it and buy it as it's nice to have good clean movies to watch. Thanks for the recommendation!
After we are done with the Little House series, I think we'll move on to Anne of Greene Gables.

Julie and I wanted to go see Fireproof but it was gone at the theaters when we finally had a free evening. I heard it was good.
We have the whole Anne of Green Gables set,too. Classic! Years ago, I actually showed a scene from one of those tapes to an English Class that was behaving a little too much like those spoiled girls in that class when Anne first comes to the school and they treat her like an outsider.
I wish they made more movies like that one.
I would love to see Fireproof but it looks like we'll have to wait.

I still haven't seen Fireproof but have heard such good things about it, I must remember to rent it the next time I'm at the Video Store.
As for Anne of Green Gables, I remember reading that story when I was a young girl and to this day still enjoy watching the series/movies that were made. Shawn & Wendy went to Prince Edward Island about 4 years ago and got to visit Lucy Maud Montgomery's home, as well as the actual Green Gables house. They brought me back a snowglobe of Anne of Green Gables so ask me if I was thrilled! lol
What I love about the friendships I've made through blogging is that we get to know each other so well through our posts and sometimes I feel closer to them than the face to face friends I have!

I loved the book Anne of Green Gables and have watched some of the weekly segments here in Canada. I have seen the movie and loved it as well.
Anne is a Canadian hero. Have you taught your children anything about Lucy Maude Montgomery?
If you ever get a chance to go to PEI, be sure to take in Anne's home. It's like stepping into the book.
