Sometimes, during those little everyday stressful moments, it's good to remind myself that kids think a little differently.
For example, here's two real conversations I have heard around our house in the past week...
4 yr old Lil Cherub is riding her new preschool scooter around in the livingroom.
Lil Cherub: "Mommy! She made me fall down!"
7 yr old Sweetie-girl: "I did not! Mommy, I did not!"
Me- noticing with my good mom-radar the sincerity in 7 yr old's voice: "How did she make you fall, Honey? She's way over there!"
4 yr old Lil Cherub: "She pushed my fall-down button!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's bedtime and I am asking the girls to put the new big ball away...it's doesn't seem to be happening since there's still bouncing going on. I'm tired and there's irritation in my voice...
"I've asked you both three times to put that ball away..."
7 yr old, bouncing it past me: "But Mommy, we're playing it away."
Oh. Okay, then....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'll be honest. Today was a little rough. The girls competed for my attention like two ravenous pups for a milkbone while I struggled to homeschool, maintain order and discipline, yet remain loving and patient. (All the while chasing after a real-life pup).
I'm not sure I succeeded so much, and I was ready to fly to Barbados for a week at the spa. (I don't know a thing about Barbados- it just sounds like the place to be...)
When these days come-and they do to all of us-it's nice to think on those other moments...those completely melt in your mouth moments...such as just yesterday:
Four year old was coloring and used the blue crayon...and then green.
"Mommy, I'm using the marriage colors! Yours and Daddy's favorite colors ...together!"
And the very best one...on Christmas night...
The girls were brushing their teeth at bedtime as I supervised, while we talked about all of our presents and things that we did. Lil Cherub burst forth with,
"You know what my favorite Christmas present was?"
"What, Honey?"
Grabbing me into her little bear hug, she declared,
"My mommy!!!"
Oh yes...those are the moments that make all of the stress worthwhile. Moments to take out of our cupboard, so to speak, and savor just when we need it most.

Boy, they do have a way of melting your heart just as you're ready to fly to Barbados, don't they?
Very cute!
Mommy Meltdown sucessfully avoided! *Chuckle*
Very similar to what I posted recently. I like Mrs. House Mouse comment of mommy meltdown!
I agree, I talked about my "not being a mommy moments" but at the same time when Little King just smiles at me I melt...
You need to write those down so you can pull them out when they are teenagers and its not cool to say things like that to their moms! :vD Melts. my. heart. Yup your girls are too cute!
I love how you ended this with those two very precious moments. With them posted here, you'll always remember!
hugs!
You got that right! It is priceless to have these things written down to remember later. Great words of wisdom!
priceless moments!!
:-D
Aww, my heart is melting! This was just so precious. Thanks so much for sharing all your sweet little conversations. The "fall down button" was just adorable! There seems to be a lot of people who know how to push my buttons too! lol :)
Ah, those quotes are so sweet! I'm sure that a sense of humor has preserved my sanity many times!
Yup, just when you think you've had all you can take, a little voice tells you something so loving:-) Adorable!! Hugs xox
Too adorable.
Those ARE the moments that make it all worthwhile! I love what she said was her favorite Christmas present - if that just doesn't melt a mom's heart!
Oh I thank Jesus we have those moments, they help me sooo much during the difficult times. These are wonderful.
The fall down button is classic.
Those are very precious moments. In fact - looking back from a rather long distance (I'm a Grandma now) - they seem to be the ones we remember most. It's even true of the kids. Somehow all the moments we'd rather forget are forgotten, and the good memories linger. I believe that is called grace.
Somehow I missed this post. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Oh those wonderful moments! They are the ones we hold in our hearts & are so special.
Thaqnks for sharing them.
