I have to say that all of my school experiences were not so happy. But third grade was an exception. In fact, it was one of the highlights of my growing up years.
I felt sort of "one" with my classmates and absolutely loved my teacher, Mrs. S. She was my absolutely favorite teacher of all time!
Add to all of this that my classmates and I were all Partridge Family wannabes, and well...things could not have been better. Dig those outfits! (Go ahead...click on the picture to get every detail of our cool selves.)
No offense to my sweet mom at all here...but now that I have two daughters, I can honestly say...I would not let my own soon-to-be third grader wear go-go boots and miniskirts! Yikes!
But especially if she had bow-legs like me! (Please....no laughing, you all. Somehow they straightened just a tad over the years. But only a tad.)
Sometimes I forget that it isn't only today that we moms walk into stores and grimace to see teen fashions in size 6-8! We're all looking way too groovy here.

So now that I mentioned that bow-legged thing, it will be easy to spot me! heehee
See the guy in the center? With the stripes? His name was Todd and he was held back in Kindergarten, so was a year older than the rest of us, and oh-so mature. He thought he was third grade's answer to Don Juan. I wonder what Mr. Juan is doing now?
And the boy to the left with the cub scout uniform...That was Jimmy. Does he not look a wee bit like JFK? I thought so, even then!
Mavis and Kellie are in there- two of my best friends that year who I laughed with, had sleep-overs with, and sometimes argued with over who's lunch box was the best or if Laura Partridge really sang on the records. (She never would believe me that only Shirley and David did the actual singing...just couldn't let it go...sigh)
So Mavis and Kellie, if you some how come across my blog, be sure to get in touch, OK?
Are you married? Already have grown children, or *gulp* have grandbabies now? Or did you start a bit later like myself and still have young children in tow?
I remember that Mavis and I did an elective where we did a dance routine to "Cherokee People". I just can't hear it now without reliving us practicing our synchronized movements to the whole song. We were so good!
Don't you just wish you could find some of your old friends and classmates from childhood and see them again, even for just an hour over coffee? I do.
But then again, maybe it's best to just leave those memories tucked away where they are sometimes...Maybe they're happier that way. And perhaps we need to sometimes even say a prayer for an old friend that comes into mind...
whether it's the Don Juan of third grade or the girl who no one wanted to sit with.
So, let me know if this inspires you to rummage through those old boxes and stroll down your old memory lane. And if you decide to post one, let me know so I can come see.
Just beware of glaring fashion statements along the way!

Tammy,
I loved seeing the class picture of you in 3rd grade. So cute! Believe it or not, I still have mine, Bill's and some of my Moms.
For many years, they only used head shots, but I do have some with "fashion statements" too...
I'll have to think about a post to go with some of those..
((hugs))
I have to say that the one girl I hung out with most in elementary school was horrible to me and she has tried to get in touch with me on several occasions and I won't return calls or attempt to reach her. Long story. But yes, there are a few I wouldn't mind seeing and finding out where they are now.
Love the picture and the clothes~ LOL! It's so funny to look back and see what we thought was the height of fashion when we were younger. ;-)
Loved Partridge family! And what do you mean only Shirley and David are really singing??!! Just kidding! But I remember how devastated I was to find that out!
I think grade 3 was a great year for me too! One of my favorite teachers was from that year too, Sister Mary Louise! Petite little thing just loved all the kids.
Hey daughter, your legs were cute & you loved those boots! You have always been beautiful, both inside & out. I love that picture. I'm so glad I gave you all those pictures so you can preserve them.
that was fun to take a trip down your memory lane! I know what you mean about the fashions, I look at clothing I wore "back then" and I think "how could I ever have worn that in public?!"
Lol, I loved my go-go boots... I guess that pegs our age, eh? I wore mine in grade 5 or 6 (?), so I must be a little older than you. Mine were WHITE, with a zipper down the back. My Mom was a model/actress and she loved fashion. So she made sure I wore the latest and greatest. I guess I still have a bit of a weakness for such things... :~)
how cute!
David Cassidy!!!! (put scream here) I thought he was sooooo sexy! hehe I so enjoyed this post and wow, you all were sure groovy in 3rd grade!!! lol I remember the mini skirts and gogo boots...in grade 8 the nuns weren't too happy about that! LOL Can you believe it, my mom never bought class pictures or any school pictures when me and my two older brothers went to school...she only started buying them when my two younger brothers were in school. So, the only school pictures I have are the ones I had in High School...I paid for those myself. I have my High School yearbooks too and I sometimes look through them and wonder what happened to everybody. As for grade school, though, I can't remember who I knew back then! lol xoxo
Tammy, this was the most fun to read!! I have a couple school group photos somewhere. I have so often wondered what happened to a couple childhood friends and have even tried to google them, but no luck.
What a great post this was!!
One more thing: if you think you were hot in 1972 with the gogo boots and miniskirts, you should have seen ME in 1972 in the same thing -- only I was 23 years old and should have known better!! What we do for the sake of fashion.........
I proposed to David Cassidy in a letter (sigh). And my third and fourth grade years in South Texas were the best and most memorable of all my schooling years. I've acyually looked on the classmate hunting website to find some of them (I still remember most of their names.) Unfortunately, the site costs money and I'm too cheap to really hunt down Carlos or Bobby or Nora or Arecelia. Oh well.
Hmmm, David Cassidy, Bobby Sherman, Davy from the Monkees. Yep, you took me waaaay back on this one. LOL! And the go go boots? Of course I had them, too. Mine laced up the front, and I thought I was the stuff!!
No way would my daughter wear that now. Hee Hee.
That is so fun. My third grade pic has me in a velvety purple shirt with sparkles--oh how I longed for that shirt, and everyone had them.
A lot of my ex-classmates still live in the area or are in touch via Myspace and it is always funny to run into one at the mall or the thrift hop. (We live in an unusual area whee the majority of graduates seek to return, often having multiple generations of one family living in the same neighborhoods.)
Fun post! And I love the picture, I think the boots are cute; and the dresses are actually longer than what some girls wear now!
Sounds like a prospective blog post I could keep in mind.
I often wonder what happened to some friends and if they should happen to come to mind, I do pray for them.
It all seems so long ago now, though.
AWESOME! I have one of these class pictures too! I'll dig it out for you! You were such a cutie pie... Bow legs and all! I see we have a lil David Cassidy going on. My best friend at the time was named Julie. She just knew Bobby Sherman was singing just for her! *LOL* Thanks for sharing! This really made my morning! :o)
I will have to try and scan some old class photos , that's fun to see! Every single girl has on a dress, wow, was it required?
Mine is up! ;o)
Meredith, no- dresses weren't required at all...but remember this was 1972! When your mom knew it was class picture day, you wore a dress! ;) But with go-go boots, we all loved the idea!
I'm glad to see I'm not the only David Cassidy fan! I had two or three Partridge Family albums...I would play them over and over. We don't currently have an LP player but I still have them at my mom's house...the song playing was one of favs! :)
If I want to make my kids double over with laughter, I just haul out some of those old school pictures.
This was a fun post. I think I'm content to just have the memories.
~ I'm 41! ~
I love your picture and yes it took me back... not back enough to rummage through photo's but I did think about my 3rd grade year. I had a red ruby ring on my right hand. I got it for Chirstmas that year along with a watch. Thanks for sharing.
I love it! I don't think I have any all class pictures like that. I don't think you have bow legs!!
I would love to find Sue and Kay from grade school, and lots of the boys. That was the only time I was popular with the boys. I have reconnected with a friend from 6yh-8th grade and hope to see her this summer in Minnesota (when I also hope to visit Diane of Partners in Prayer for our Prodigals). I also reconnected with a friend from high school, who was from Iran. I posted about her not too long ago. She's also in Minnesota, so hope to make lots of new memories this summer.
Thanks for the nostalgic look back at the 70s - when I got married!
Look how cute you were with your kneesocks! So sweet!
In 1972, I was busy being a fetus. But I have some pretty heinous class photos from my day, none of which were as sweet as this one.
What fun that picture is. When I look at pics of when I was in grade school and Jr. High I am amazed at the way my shirt and my pants have two totally different designs. It is almost nauseating to see. How my mother dressed me so is beyond my imagination. They were fun times though. But I'd rather be 46 than 6 or 16 any day of the week.
How wonderful!! Now, I was a Partridge fan too.
I went to two class reunions and now live too far to make it feasible. I wonder how people are doing. The ten year reunion, the ones who never moved from our small farming community were still going out on weekends to drink and dance. I have worried about their children ever since. The classmates looked older but didn't act it.
Tammy - how cute to take us down memory lane. Yeah, some girls I really would like to see again...But traveling back to Germany usually only involves visits with my family...
Blessings to your and yours...
"Cherokee People" from Paul Revere & the Raiders?
When todays kids grow up and look at their school pictures they too will wonder why their mothers ever allowed them to dress like that.
Funny picture. And, you know, we did wear short dresses, but we just didn't look as "mature" as the girls do now. How on earth did we ever manage to climb the monkey bars?
:>)
